Chapter 7: Echoes of the Past As the first light of dawn stretched over the horizon, Assandra and Bandit found themselves at the entrance of the old zoo. The once vibrant and bustling attraction now lay in ruins, and the gates, long since rusted and broken down, swung eerily in the wind. Assandra hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and stepped inside, Bandit trailing closely behind. As they wandered through the decaying remnants of animal enclosures, Assandra couldn’t help but think about her mother....

May 17th, 2122 Somewhere in space It’s been a little over a month since we left the ISS. My proposal to go on a mission to study the aliens was approved, and together with a small team, we set out to find some answers about the aliens. We’re not the only ones looking for answers. There are other teams out there, studying the aliens in different ways. Some are trying to communicate with them, others are trying to find a way to fight them....

March 16, 2122 The Intergalactic Space Station Dear Diary, The days are a blur on the station. I’ve been keeping busy with my research, but can’t stop thinking about how we weren’t able to save that planet from the aliens. We need to understand them better. What do they want? Why are they attacking? I’ve been going over the data we have, but it’s just not enough. I wish we could get closer to them, study them in their natural habitat....

Above it, a monorail used to take visitors between the major sights of the city, ending up on the roof of the mall. The leftovers of the tracks created an indent in the ceiling that cast a peculiar shadow across the cracked pavement....

Assandra and Bandit, her capybara friend, lives in the ruins of a city. They met Alex, an alien. Assandra, Bandit and Alex now work together to survive. The sun rose above the old mall, quickly warming up the cracked pavement. Assandra poked her head out of the makeshift tent and looked around. Bandit was nowhere to be seen. “Bandit?” she called out, but there was no answer. Assandra left the tent and started exploring the ruins of the mall....

March 1, 2122 The Intergalactic Space Station Dear Diary, It’s been a little over two years since I’ve been assigned to the Intergalactic Space Station. It’s been an amazing experience and I’ve seen things that I never thought were possible. I’ve even had the opportunity to travel to other galaxies. But today was different. Today, we received a distress call from a planet on the other side of the galaxy. The planet was under attack by an alien race and their planet was about to be destroyed....

“We’re almost out of supplies for this week” Bandit said as he and Assandra rummaged through the wreckage of a grocery store. “I know, we’ll have to find something soon” Assandra said. Suddenly, they heard a loud noise. It sounded like something was moving. They hid behind a pile of rubble and waited. After a few moments, they heard the noise again. It was getting closer. They both held their breath and waited....
